We’re Megan & Drikus,

We started fiddystates.com in 2015 to document our travel adventures across North America. We hope this website will be a useful and inspiring resource for others hoping to explore the US in an RV. For us it was a trip of a lifetime, we took 6 months off work, bought an RV and Truck, drove to all 49 states and fly to Hawaii. We have memories to last a lifetime and are grateful for the opportunity and the people we met along the way.

Our trip was filled with amazing adventures and challenges and we managed to visit all 50 states.

Hello! Just about to become a full-time motorhome resident & HATE the decor….so tips on the flooring install would be great…I am already the queen of spray paint!

My family is in Michigan…my mom used to own a winery north of Traverse City, next door to Ciccone Vineyards & Winery (Madonna’s Dad & Step-mom…super nice people). If you get up to Traverse City, the Cherry Festival starts soon…look up my sister, Julie, who owns Salon Elan on Union St.

I worked a summer at Cedar Point, as well.

If/when you get to Oregon, I will be moving to Depoe Bay (the whale watching capitol of Oregon), so stop by…there is plenty of parking for your vehicle, so feel free to contact me. My boyfriend is a winemaker & has worked in NZ, although his only experience with Australia was the Sydney airport.

      Hi Jill!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment!

For our floors, we used Traficmaster Allure flooring, you can get it from most Home Depots. It’s really easy to use, you just click and stick it. There are a tonne of videos on YouTube that explain it in more detail. We saw that other RV-ers have used it before. It’s fantastic because it’s waterproof so you don’t have to worry about ply wood rotting.

Do you have some more pictures of how you did the floor on your slide out? the seam where it comes together looks really good.

I will have to look and see if we have some more pictures. Basically, what I did is start by laying the Allure flooring from the edge of the slide out, not the back of the slide out. I let the flooring hang over by about an inch and I think that is why the seam looks good. It was not a perfect solution as the corners did start to tear, but I thought I could always just replace the panel as we had some spares. I hope that helps. If you come up with a better solution please let us know.
